Faith Vs. Doubt
Do you ever struggle with faith and doubt? I do!
You see, I have faith in God, but then He gave me free will. Sometimes I struggle to connect or separate the two concepts, which caused me to have doubt. When we are not in control, doubt is an ominous factor. I found myself spending a lot of time asking for forgiveness because of my doubts.
An Example of Faith
My wife had been ill for some time and came through so much that many could not comprehend. She did not doubt that God saved her. She had become one of His many miracles. Both she and I have faith and believe that God was with her and guided her medical teams.
And Then There Was Doubt
Then there is “free will.” During my wife’s illness, I spent a lot of time with her in hospitals and rehabilitation centers. I’ve also witnessed a lot of things that would make you cringe. Sometimes there are mistakes by doctors, sometimes there are mistakes by nurses, and sometimes there are mistakes by staff. There have been other incidents of inadequate training, lack of continuity in care, and little to no communication. When those things happen, it can make a person doubt what God is allowing to happen. After all, if everything is in God’s plan, why or how did he let these things happen?
Worry Sets In
The result is that worry sets in when you see so many things happening that are just not right. Often time these things could have severe consequences. So I prayed for God to heal and be with my wife, I prayed for guidance for the medical team, and I believe God will do these things. Then I get concerned about what God doesn’t do but will allow because of “free will.” So, you see, I spend a lot of time praying for healing and a lot of time praying for forgiveness! During these times, it is essential to remember 1 Peter 5:7 “Casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.”
Do you ever find yourself in this situation? How do you handle it?
