Fake News And The Crucifixion
Some Things Never Change
How often have you heard someone say “things are worse than ever”? Well, sometimes it’s true but when it comes to fake news, it’s been around for a long time. Matthew 27:20-24 NIV, tells us how a crowd forced Pilate to turn Jesus over to them. Pilate could find no crime but that fact was not important to the crowd. They hated Jesus and would not be quieted until Pilate conceded.
Matthew27:20 “But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed”.
21 “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” Asked the Governor. “Barabbas” they answered.
22 “What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called the Messiah?” Pilate asked
They all answered, “Crucify Him!”
23 “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate
But they shouted all the louder “Crucify Him!”
24 When Pilate saw he was getting nowhere, but that instead, an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is your responsibility!”
3 Fake News Comparisons Of The Crowd To The Mob
#1 – Matthew 27:20 tells us that the chief priests and elders persuaded the crowd to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus executed.
#1A – Today the mainstream media distorts the news, reports only one side, and allows so-called reporters to state their opinions as if they were reporting the news. Far-left activists, including some who are elected officials, join forces with the media to belittle anyone who has a different opinion, activate their cancel-culture to force people to shut up and violate our First Amendment Rights through censorship.
#2 – Matthew 27:23 is significant because the crowd didn’t respond with a reason to crucify Jesus. They just shouted louder “Crucify Him”.
#2A – Today we don’t hear reasons or proof from the mainstream media or left-wing and right-wing zealots! The proof is not important to those who would tear down a person who thinks differently than the mob. Just shout louder, distort the truth, and mislead the masses.
#3 – Matthew 27:24. Finally, Pilate just gives in to the crowd. He believes that Jesus is innocent of a crime, his wife has told him “not to have anything to do with that innocent man” (Matthew 27:19) and he has tried to free Jesus to no avail.
#3A – Through distortion, lies, and false reporting, Fake News makes every attempt to “wear us down”. These publications are not just supported by the far-left but owned and managed by the far-left. The goal of the far left, as far as I can see, is to gain the power to rule the world and take away any freedoms from Americans that would interfere with their goals. The goal of the far-right is not much different.
3 Takeaways From This Post
Takeaway #1 – In Jesus’s time, the chief priests and elders were the fake news. They mislead others to satisfy their own needs.
Takeaway #2 – The crowd was replaced by the mob. They are loud, abusive, dangerous, and not persuaded by truth or facts. They are adamant that we must agree with them or be destroyed.
Takeaway #3 – God is always in control. The battle between good and evil will continue until God ends it. The crowds in Jesus’s time were unwittingly carrying out His plan to have Jesus die on the cross for our sins. The mob and fake news of today is also some part of God’s plan to eventually deliver us from evil.
The important thing to remember is this! God gave us all free will and we all have important choices to make. These choices have nothing to do with being a democrat or a republican. They have everything to do with being a good person and respecting our fellow Americans and other human beings.
What Is Your Decision?
A – Support the fake news media and the far-left mob? Convict without proof? Suppress anyone who disagrees with you? Shout down or shut down media or groups who have different opinions? Support a President who would dictate rather than legislate?
B – Support truth in reporting? Convict only when evidence is presented? Encourage others to express their opinions? Embrace media platforms that allow all opinions to be voiced? Encourage our President and Congress to legislate, to talk freely about all sides of a topic, and come to the right decision for most Americans, not just a few in power.
I choose B! What about you?
